Yeah, that's how they feel and for people who think that we go too deep into things, and that these things are just light harted, well if i drew lipstick on a pigs face and called it a white woman, would'nt that be racist, it's the same concept.
Racism isn't as bad as before...people just hide it better because we have laws.
They consider black, africans as dirty and beneath them.
What we need to do is stick together to overcome it as a people.

Shawn, thanks for stoppin' by this blog and for sharing your thoughts.

To clarify, the post is an excerpt of someone else's writing, shared on my blog for the purpose of discussion. My only written comments on it were "Thoughts?". So I wasn't saying *I* personally don't recognize marriage...

This was posted soon after President Obama won the national presidential election and Proposition 8 in California -- taking away civil rights from LGBTQ people -- was voted in. Emotions were high, and people were grappling with a feeling of betrayal that rights were taken away from them, and feelings that a religious belief system had been injected into a state government's legalities around marriage. The author that I excerpted from was grappling with this feeling. And I was doing the same.

You speak of "marriage" as one of the foundations of civilization -- sure, but there are legal definitions and there are religious definitions. I personally recognize the concept of marriage, and strongly believe that separation of church and state are extremely important to the future of our nation. Many of my married friends believe similarly.

Your tone of condescension around the "amusing novelty" that a "small but obnoxiously loud minority" has been calling for, is repulsive. And your claims about gay marriage damaging the real thing? I haven't gotten one real answer from those who claim that, around HOW it damages marriage between a man and a woman. Stats just came out about Massachusetts which is TEEMING with those obnoxiously loud minority members who are enjoying that amusing novelty of gay marriage. The divorce rate among opposite sex married couples in Massachusetts is the lowest in the country.

What you "no longer recognize" is one of the foundations of civilization whenever and wherever civilization has existed farther back than we can remember and without some form of which society would break down within two generations. What *I* don't recognize is an amusing novelty which a small but obnoxiously loud minority has been calling for for not more than 15 years and which, at best, changes nothing and, at worst, further damages the real thing.

I should congratulate you for being clever, but this is nothing like a meaningful argument.

Thanks for the comment Bill. You can find that poster and many, many others on this link: http://www.studentsforbhopal.org/MediaResources.htm#Posters.

They currently have them available as high quality .jpg's, you could probably print them out on a color printer. If you'd like something higher quality I'd get in touch with them.

It's such a moving poster. I recall staring at it and staring at it when it first came out, tears coming down my face.
