Friends of Justice covered the story because we were the first organization to investigate the Jena case and break the story to the media...so it only makes sense that we'd cover it heavily on our blog!

Since we're a faith-based civil rights organization, we worked very hard to get the progressive Christian community (and heck, all the Christians) to pay attention.

Of course, black Christians were ALREADY paying attention....(To expand on your comment, when secular progressive ask why "nobody" from Christianity gets it, I wonder why they're counting black Christians as "nobody"!)

The progressive Christian blog Sojourners let me do a guest piece:
http://blog.beliefnet.com/godspolitics/2007/09/jena-is-america-by-lydia-bean.html

Friends of Justice also got tpmcafe to cover the Jena story:
http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/specialguests/2007/sep/24/a_new_civil_rights_movement_born_in_jena

But those stories come from long-standing relationships between our organization and those blogs. Everywhere else, the "leading" progressive blogs were totally out of the loop, and stubbornly insisted on remaining out of the loop. Oh man, let me tell you about trying to get the leading progressive blogs to cover Jena! It's like they think it's not real politics unless it's been supervised by a white man with an Ivy League law degree!
